How the estimate is calculated
This tool starts from the lowest advertised starting price we've verified for your trade — for dog walkers, that's an anchor between £61 and £135 a year from real provider prices; for other trades, it's anchored to AXA's generic public liability starting price of £6 a month. From there, we apply adjustment factors for your cover level, legal structure, revenue band, employee status and (for dog walkers) extras like boarding or larger group sizes.
Those adjustment factors are sector-standard estimates, not the output of our own quote study — we're upfront about that because it matters. We haven't yet run our own study cotising real profiles across multiple insurers (see methodology for exactly what's planned), so treat this range as a sanity-check starting point, not a quote. The only way to get an exact premium is to request one directly from an insurer.
Why it's always a range, never a number
We deliberately never show a single "your premium is £X" figure. Actual pricing depends on underwriting factors this calculator can't see — your specific claims history, exact location, precise services offered and an insurer's own risk appetite that day. A calculator that pretends to know your exact premium is guessing; a range grounded in real advertised prices is honest about what it can and can't tell you.
This is general information, not financial or insurance advice. Figures are advertised starting prices or orientative estimates, not personalised quotes. Some links on this page are affiliate links — see our disclaimer and methodology.
